Do you know that you are in charge of your life? I mean REALLY understand that you are in charge? You can choose where you are going and what you would like to do! That is the beautiful thing about life: there are so many options open to us and if we find ourselves going down a path that we would rather not be on all we have to do is make the decision to take a different path.
Once you understand you are in charge of how your life is going, you are going to want to know how to turn it into what you want. But how do you do that? Well it is actually really easy.
Step one. Write down what you would like to have in your life.
Step two. Figure out what steps you can start to take to get what you want.
Step three. Put those steps into action.
If you have been wanting better health and a better job, then what could you do to make this a reality?
You could start planning out time to workout and start making some healthier food choices than you have. Remember, though, you do not have to be perfect. Just start making a little more of an effort than you were before.
If you have been wanting a different job then you need to look at if you need more training, education, etc. If so then see what you can do. If you can afford to go back to school full time then go for it. Or if you can afford part time that is great. Yet, what if you cannot afford to do ANY schooling? Then you can start learning and studying on your own. This way either you are way ahead of the game when you can go to school, or you can learn so much that you may get hired without the formal schooling. Now- a- days, we have public libraries that are filled with books that can train you for what you want. Will it be an instant fix? No. But it will start laying down the foundations for that change that you want.
Let’s say you want to be a fitness model, but you are quite overweight. You still have control over this situation. By eating healthy, working out, and then finding help for any specific health issues you may have, you can still be a fitness model!
For argument’s sake, let’s say that you have such bad health issues that no one can help you with them, and you have been to every doctor and no one can figure out how to help you. Your dream stops there, right? Heck no! If everything fails, then maybe you can become a model for healthy lifestyles for people who have health challenges such as yours. You may not be a model for the specific field you wanted to be, but you can be a model nonetheless. An inspiration too, which is very valuable! We sometimes get taken in other directions while following what we think we want and it sometimes is even better than what we wanted in the first place.
Whatever might hold you back, remember that you are in charge. Not your hunger, not fatigue, not even the desire to skip out on going to the gym. YOU! You make the choice. From now on, when things come up, say, out loud, “I AM IN CHARGE!” Keep yelling it until you really mean it. It can make you feel better about the situation and feel stronger and empowered right away.
Start seeing the opportunities in everything that life throws your way. There is a story about a man who inherited a piece of barren desert land. Most people would have sold the land and moved somewhere else, but this man looked at what he did have on this land that could be worthwhile. What he discovered is that the land was highly populated with rattlesnakes. He decided he would sell the venom, skin, rattles and the meat. He wound up with a gold mine on his hands. If you are a vegan, you may not like the idea of killing animals like this, but you get the idea. He knew he was in charge of what was going on in his life and found a solution for the challenge at hand.
Things often times come to people in a different and even better way than they thought. So be open to the opportunities that come your way, they may be leading you to what you want. Often when people focus on benefits and solutions to a given challenge, rather than the challenge itself, they can see there is an awesome opportunity presenting itself. Many times the challenge is presenting itself so that you will take notice of what is available to you.
If you are having health issues, it may be that you are too focused on the issue. Instead acknowledge the challenge and then act on what you need to do to correct the issue. If it feels like there is no hope, just keep your eyes open. You will find a solution to your problem by being open to it. There is a remedy for most problems out there and it is up to you to step up to the plate and find it. Do not wallow in self-pity over the issue. “Why me?” is never a good question to ask. Instead ask how can I solve this? Stop thinking about how bad the problem you are facing is and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! How many times, in life, do you feel like things are out of your control? Do you wish that things would get better all on their own because there is absolutely nothing you can do to change the situation? Well, here is some news for you. YOU ARE IN CHARGE! Seriously, it is as simple as that. Believe it or not, you are in charge of your life. You make the decisions on where your life is going, what actions you take, what you eat, who you spend your time with and how you react to events in your life.
You might be thinking that this is “bull.” Whatever situation you are in is not your own doing. Really this is not a very popular thing to say because people do not want to hear it. Realize and embrace the fact that wherever you are in life right now happened because of the decisions that YOU made. The world might have been pushing against you, but only you can decide to act and change things or let yourself be pushed around.
Just because you know you are fully in charge of your life does not mean that you will never slip up. People do all the time. The trick is to realize you have started to spiral down and start right where you are at to turn your life back to what you want. You can always start right where you are. It is never too late.
Here’s the thing: we all will have challenges that come up in our lives, but it is the choices we make that determine how we will react to the situation and maybe even use it to our benefit.
Remember Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it! You can either choose to focus on the problem or focus on the solution. The choice is up to you!
