Do you often say "I just don't have enough time to exercise"? Well here is a solution!

A common thing I hear is, "I just don't have enough time to exercise.” I understand that there are some people who are working 2 or 3 jobs while raising kids. If you are one of those people, then you are incredible and I would call that a valid reason. The thing is most people who use this phrase are not too busy to work out; rather, it simply is not important enough to them. I am not saying this in a mean way; it’s just the truth. If something is important enough, you will find the time to do it. Many of the people who say they do not have time for exercise will spend between 1 – 4 hours per night watching TV. If you have time to watch TV, you have time to exercise. Instead of me telling you to give up your TV time and go to the gym (because that will probably fly like a lead balloon), I offer a different solution. One in which you can have your cake and eat it, too.

Use your TV time wisely.

I suggest you use your TV time to do your workouts. You have commercial breaks, use them for your exercise. At each commercial break, choose one exercise and do as many of them as you can during that break. I am even putting a suggestion list below of exercises. If you are watching enough TV that you go through all of these and are still watching, then you can either go through the whole set again or think up some of your own.

  • Push up
  • Planks
  • Jumping jacks
  • Squats
  • Dips
  • Lunges
  • Calf Raises
  • Superman

Another thing you can do with some of that commercial time is stretch. Stretching is so helpful, especially since so many people work at a desk where they sit all day. When you are sitting at a desk all day, stretching can make a world of difference and you will feel better when you stretch out your tight hip flexors and your sore back.

If you are able to workout while you watch the whole program that is great too! This does not mean you need to do 5 hours’ worth of a workout, but if you are one of the people who only watches one show and can watch the show while you workout, then doing it throughout the whole program is a great way to multi-task.

When you decide to use your TV time to also get in shape, you are not using any other precious time that you would spend doing other things and you stay entertained! Many people just get bored with their workouts, so engaging the entertainment factor is important. Also, when you are watching your favorite program, you do not have to think about how you would rather be doing something else. Chances are you are right where you want to be.

You have more time than you think to multi-task so you can get healthy and fit. You will feel better in your daily life when you start incorporating exercise into your life.
