I would love to get your take on the paleo diet. Do you think it is good and do you think that someone needs to follow it 100% of the time? I feel like 100% is almost impossible to do, would and 80% type thing work?
Thank you for your feedback on this,
ANY diet you see available is not tailor fit to your unique body. I am sure it works for some people but not everyone. Some people are better on high carbs, some on low carbs like Paleo, some do well on the Mediterranean diet, others on a small portions diet, you get the point.
I think the really great thing about the paleo diet is that it promotes a whole food based diet. That, I think is one of the biggest keys to success with it. It is funny that now there are all of these "paleo" products available that are just a different version of a refined product. There are more reasons to stay off bread other than the carbs, for instance, because it is flippin addicting! Eating a loaf of paleo bread and butter is still not a good choice and yet I hear people doing this and think it is okay because it is paleo. Or they have a huge plate full of meat and bacon. You are not meant to have 20 oz of meat at every meal on this diet. It is supposed to be a moderate amount like 3-6 oz and a huge plate full of vegetables.
If you are following the basic principles of the paleo diet, meaning your food being in it's natural state with tons of vegetables and some protein, then that is great! Your body may do best when you add in a potato or a yam or some oats. Just keep them in their whole food form for the best results. If you are going to eat oats, have steel cut oat groats. If you are going to eat a potato then do not slather it in a ton of butter, sour cream and cheese. Listen to what your body is telling you, if you are low on energy and feel like you need some more carbs then eat some carbs. Do not let any "diet" dictate exactly what you are doing. Your body will tell you what you need, if you just listen to it.
