I have heard that many people have gone vegan for their health and I want to do it, but I am not sure where to start.

Just because someone is vegan does not necessarily make them healthy. I have seen many people who go vegan and then eat mostly carbs like pasta, breads, and so on. That is not a good way to eat. The people who are vegan and healthy are healthy because they balance their diet, and just eat a ton more vegetables than many other people.

If you are going vegan only because you think it is healthier, you may want to look at all your options and be sure that this is the right way for you before you switch your diet. If you are someone who loves meat and doesn’t really want to give it up then, instead of going vegan, just keep your meat portion under control (2-6 oz, 8 or more if you are body building) and load up your plate with vegetables. And I mean load it up! Have a big salad or a couple cups of cooked veggies. Honestly, this can be an easier way to get you on a healthy path. It is much less jarring than putting multiple food groups completely off limits.

If you are doing this because you do not believe in the slaughter of animals then you are already sure this is for you. In that case, you need to look at how you are going to get in all of your nutrients and how you are going to balance it out. You want to make sure you get protein, complex carbs, healthy fats, and tons of veggies in. Carbs will probably not be an issue, since that will be plentiful. Beans are a protein of choice for vegans but remember although they do have protein in them, they are more carbs than protein. You may want to even look at a protein powder to make sure you get enough in. Of course how much your body needs of each nutrient depends on the demand you are putting on your body and your specific body chemistry.
