Dear Lauren,

I really do want to get healthier, I have been working out and for the most part eating right but I just don't want to give up pizza. I hear that pizza is one of the worst foods I can eat. How do I deal with this? Am I holding myself back from my health goals by keeping the pizza?

Dear Carmen,

Most people have something that they are unwilling to give up, and that is fine. If you really enjoy something that much and feel like you are being forced to give it up, what will eventually happen is you will give up the healthy lifestyle you are creating. Keep the pizza in your diet and change the other foods you are eating. If you are working out and eating well the rest of the time you will still be on the right track. If you are eating pizza more than 2-3 times a week then you may want to cut that back a bit. But if you have the amount you are consuming under control you should not have a problem.

Here are a few things you can do to make your pizza eating better for you.

#1 Eat a big salad before your pizza, this way you will get your healthy veggies in and you will not have to eat as much pizza.

#2 Do not restrict yourself. If you know you can have the pizza when you want it you are far less likely to over eat the pizza when you do have it.

#3 Make your pizza healthier. Go lighter on the cheese and greasy meat and heavier on the vegetables and lean meat on your pizza.

#4 Remake your pizza. You can even make a zucchini style pizza if you are feeling like having a culinary adventure.

These are ideas you can test out, but really if you are changing the rest of your eating other than the pizza you should be fine. Enjoy your healthy life and your pizza. LIVE FULL OUT!
