Dear Lauren,

I am so unmotivated. I know that I should lose some weight and I know my boyfriend wants me to lose weight, but I am just not interested in changing any of my current habits. How can I find my motivation?

Thank you,

Dear Linda,

First and foremost, you need to do something because YOU want to do it. Not because you SHOULD, and not because someone else wants you to change. If you don't want to change your lifestyle habits then you won’t. You need to find your reason why, your determining factor. For some, it is that they want to further their career; getting healthier helps them think more clearly and gives them better stamina throughout their day. For others, they want to be able to play with their children and set a good example, or have adventures they want to be in shape for. These are just a few examples.

You need to find your reason why you want to get healthy, and it needs to be a reason that is strong enough to put that fire inside of you. Once you find that reason write it down. Read it every day. This will remind you daily why you want to be healthier, and it will make your food choices easier. Also, it will push you to go workout when you would rather veg and watch TV.

Again, do not do it for anyone else but YOU. The outside push will only work for a short time. I suggest reading through the Mindset section. There, we've provided a lot of different tools that can help get you going. Do some digging inside yourself and you will find answers about what you really want.
