Period issues (such as heavy bleeding or a lot of pain)
Inability to cope with stress
Inability to build muscle mass
Just because you are having a health problem like weight does not mean it is necessarily a hormone problem. There are many, many things that can cause these issues. But it does not hurt to get it checked out to know where you stand.
How Can You Find Out if Your Hormones are Out of Whack?
Go to someone who specializes in hormonal imbalances, such as an endocrinologist. Make sure when you are dealing with someone that they are taking everything into account and not just the numbers. Like I said above, you could be on the low end of normal but still not be in the right range for your body. A good doctor will use the numbers from your tests along with what you are saying your issues are and come up with a good idea of what the problem may be.
What Else Can You Do?
If your hormones are out of whack, a doctor may prescribe hormone supplements. While these can make a night and day difference, you also want to make sure you are doing what you can to help along your hormonal health.
How you eat can have a significant effect on your hormones. Eat a balanced diet of healthy lean protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats and tons of vegetables. If you are eating a diet of refined carbs, sugars, fats food and unhealthy fats then you are not giving your hormones a helping hand. Make sure you get some exercise. Exercise helps boost many of the hormones in your body. Both cardio and weight training have different effects on hormones that are beneficial. Keep your stress under control. When you are dealing with a ton of stress, it releases hormones including cortisol which can create weight gain.
Understand that it can take some time to find out what is going on with your body. You may need to get multiple opinions and it could be something other than a hormone problem. Keep searching for the solutions for whatever ails you. It is worth it!
