Dear Lauren, I am a nervous/stress eater but my waistline can not handle this habit. I get into a stressful situation and I almost unconsciously start shoving food into my mouth. Because I have a stressful job, this habit is getting to be too common. What can I do about this?

Thank you,

Dear Benny,

This is actually a very common issue. There are a couple things you can do.

#1 Start to use relaxation techniques. When you start to feel like you are getting stressed, take some deep breaths. If possible take a walk, or always have some of your favorite comedy on hand to lighten your mood. You can use any technique you choose as long as you find something you can use when the stressful times occur.

#2 Have snacks on hand that are light in calories and high in nutrition for the times when the stress management techniques are not quite cutting it. Some great ideas are:
Sliced cucumbers with some salt, chili, and garlic powder

  • Air popped popcorn
  • Sliced Jicama dusted with cinnamon
  • Zucchini chips
  • Crispy roasted green beans
  • Roasted chick peas
  • Kale Chips

In addition to these two things, also make sure you are eating your regular healthy meals and drink plenty of water, this can help with these stressful binges before they even start. You can do this. LIVE FULL OUT!
