The holidays tend to be a time when people fall off the healthy bandwagon. It is a time of decedent pies, rich foods and a whole lot of sitting around. I know many people even give the gift of candy during the holiday season, for some this is great but for others it can derail the healthy habits they are putting into place. While you may choose to enjoy the decedent food you can at least give gifts that make this holiday season a healthy motivational time of year.


Healthy Kitchen Gifts

Warning, Make sure the person you are getting these for actually like to cook. I will not be held responsible for you sleeping in the dog house.

  1. Veggetti Spiral Slicer

    These are great inexpensive gadgets that make noodles out of zucchini. Myself and all the people I know who have them love them and use them on a regular basis. Because these are so inexpensive they make a great stocking stuffer or inexpensive gift for a friend.

  2. An Amazing Blender

    There is so much you can do with one of the high end blenders. Obviously you can make smoothies, but you can also make flours, nut butters and so much more. If you are going to spend a lot of money on random stuff you may just want to get one of these bad boys instead. Blend tech and Vitamin are two very popular brands.

  3. Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream Machine

    If your family loves frozen yogurt or ice cream but wants to be a bit healthier then get your own machine. This way you can control what goes into your frozen treats. You can use a base of coconut milk, goat milk, hemp milk, you name it. You have control over the sweetener you use and the extras like good dark chocolate chips.

  4. Dehydrator

    Dehydrators are great, this is another tool that you can do so much with. Beef, turkey or any meat jerky. Dehydrated herbs, fruit leather, dried fruit, trail food. You can do so much with a dehydrator.

  5. In House Herb Garden

    This is great especially if you live in a cold climate. Once the season turns you can not be growing outside and the price of herbs in the supermarket goes up. With an in house herb garden you can have fresh herbs year round. And there is something awesome about being able to just pick a little bit of what you need whenever you want it.


Give The Gift Of Fitness

When you give a fitness gift you are giving something more than one moment of excitement, you are giving someone the chance to have many enjoyable moments while learning something new and getting healthier. Get them a prepaid amount of classes. Dance classes, martial arts classes, yoga classes, get creative and find a fun class that they would enjoy. Or maybe they are into other types of group sports, get them signed up for a soccer league or for a volley ball team. Just make sure it is something that they will like and if you are not sure what they will like, get them a week pass to a few different things so they can figure out what they like.


Adventure Gifts

They say that experiences mean more than objects, well, going on an adventure certainly will be a great experience. If you are someone who spends a ton of money on Christmas anyway then spend it on a more in depth trip to somewhere far away from you. If you do not want to spend a lot then plan something that is closer to you where you can get away for the weekend. Plan it for the right time of year for your area and type of trip you are wanting to do and then go find some pics online and create a little brochure with an itinerary. Give them that itinerary on Christmas day. Plus when you plan an adventure you also have some great motivation to train for your upcoming event, so you get adventure and better health!

Some things you can plan are trips for Hiking, rafting, kayaking, skiing, snorkeling in the Bahama’s. Really the options are endless. Get online and see if there are deals on getaways that are preplanned. If not create your own.


Things To Make For Friends

Instead of giving chocolates, cakes, cookies and the like, make some other items that will be a good influence and be enjoyed. Make healthy versions of the classic sugary counterparts or do something different.

  1. Fill a unique mug with a variety of tea's or fun different flavors of gum

  2. Water bottle with their favorite show or movie image on it. (You would be surprised how happy someone can get from a Dr Who water bottle.)

  3. Healthy snacks in a decorative bowl such as roasted nuts or some dried fruit.

  4. Or a do it yourself type project, again the possibilities are endless.

I am not saying that you need to avoid all rich, sugary foods during the holidays, what would be the fun in that? I am simply showing you that you have alternate healthy holiday gift options available to you. Happy Holidays, I hope it is an amazing one for you!
